Blackmagic Design – URSA Mini 4K Cinema Digital Camera - PL Lens Mount

The Blackmagic Design 4K Mini digital film cinema camera, is the lightest digital cinema camera in the world. A small form factor, ergonomic body design and  light weight make this camera an ideal selection for professional cinema quality recording in situations that call for speed and mobility.  Perfect for handheld filming, the included side handle control start stuff via a LAMC connection.  To capture images, the URSA Mini 4K can record raw data in the CinemaDAG format on to CFast memory cards at 60 frames per second. To preserve the full dynamic range output, you can shoot in uncompressed RAW format giving you full control over the look of your film in postproduction. Uncompressed raw files can be cumbersome in the field or on the set, so the Mini 4K gives you multiple options for shooting in compressed format.  3:1 or 4:1 compression ratios help save space while still retaining postproduction flexibility.  You also have the option of shooting UHD or in 1080P video via ready to edit ProRes files in a full variety within the 444 and 422 chromos and variations depending on your preference.   For example you can record ProRes 444  at 312.5 MB per second, to 1080P ProREs 422 proxy file at 5.6 MB per second. The Black Magic Mini accepts two CFast cards for expanded memory storage, allowing you to shoot longer without having to change out your cards.  The URSA Mini Is powered be a four pin XLR Jack at the rear of the camera.   Optional plates are available to except professional V mount or Goldmount batteries on the back of the camera. Once connected to power through the many will even distribute power through a second four pin XLR Jack.

Compact, ergonomic design : 

By using a compact design the Mini 4K works perfectly for indie film, TV, commercial, documentary, music video, and feature film workflows with crews of practically any size. Optional shoulder mount with built-in quick release plate allows videographers to go from handhold to shoulder to tripod quickly. Despite its small size, the URSA Mini still fits essential I/O for professional workflows. A body made of magnesium alloy is durable and weighs just 5 pounds. A side handle is included to help make the camera suitable for handheld use and with the optional shoulder mount the handle can be extended off the side of the camera to be used in a doc style configuration.

 The 4K Super 35mm sensor:

The 35mm super sensor has an effective resolution of 3840 x 2160. It is capable of capturing video at 4K resolution with a wide 12 stops of dynamic range. This sensor size is great for creating that shallow depth of field so desirable in film making. Slightly larger than typical APS-C DSLR sensors, you'll be able to use most APS-C lenses to cover the full image circle.  Greater control in postproduction is key, which is why the Mini 4K has an extra wide exposure latitude enabling highlight recovery while keeping shadows clean from artifacting. Capable of recording with the entire sensor at up to 60 frames per second to fit television, which requires higher frame rates, you also have the option of using a smaller portion of the sensor to record slow-motion footage at up to 120 frames per second at 1080P resolution. While recording at higher frame rate the URSA Mini 4K will conform caption footage to a set standard frame rate, resulting in smooth video that does not require postprocessing prior to editing.

Convenient touchscreen control:

While the 4K many does have traditional buttons for the menus, you will also find a foldout 5" 1920 x 1080 resolution touchscreen LCD monitor. An easy to navigate touch screen menu will allow you to change all camera settings, time  code, histograms, audio levels and focus and add shot metadata with an on-screen keyboard. 

High-quality sound recording:

The top quality built-in microphones and audio recording features of the URSA Mini 4K means you can leave extra sound equipment behind. You can use the built-in stereo microphone to record natural location sound or connect professional mics using the two XLR mic inputs. Each connection has 48V of phantom power so you can plug shotgun mics or wireless lavalier mics in, for capturing more detail. Adjust levels using the physical monitoring and the auto audio meters.

 Multiple Power Options:

As a standard the URSA Mini includes the 410 XLR industry-standard power connector that works with 12 V to 30 will external power supplies. It's easy to use the camera with existing professional power supplies and batteries. It uses the same power as the original USRA from Blackmagic, so you can use the same range of battery plates for a wide range of manufacturers. The optional Blackmagic V plate allows for popular V-Mount batteries. 

DaVinci Resolve software included:

The DaVinci Resolve USB dongle is included with your camera. It contains a license to unlock the full feature set within the software. A full version of DaVinci Resolve is compatible with Mac and Windows, and can be used for post processes such as editing, color grading, media management, mastering and delivery. DaVinci Resolve can handle the 12 bit RAW images from the URSA Mini 4.6K so you can take full advantage of the Mini's amazing image quality and wide dynamic range. Resolve software features advanced timeline editing with powerful tools along with the industries leading suite of creative grading tools.
